A few months ago I sent an e-mail to all my kids about the importance of writing in our journals. I had seen a small video on the LDS home page with President Eyring talking. It was so good that I sent the text from the video to everyone. The following is the what he said about it:
Oh, Remember, Remember. By President Henry B. Eyring
When our children were very small, I started to write down a few things about what happened every day. I wrote down a few lines every day for years. I never missed a day no matter how tired I was or how early I would have to start the next day. Before I would write I would ponder this question, “Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us?”
As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done.
You might pray and ponder, asking the question: “Did God send a message that was just for me?" Did I see His hand in my life?”
Today I got this e-mail with this article in it. I found the following to be very interesting and I am going to go read the whole article later.
Brad Wilcox, “Why Write It?” Ensign, September 1999 page 56
Helen Keller, who was both blind and deaf, once said: “I don’t want to live in a hand-me-down world of others’ experiences. I want to write about me, my discoveries, my fears, my feelings, about me.”
Often, simply by writing about ourselves we begin to see life from a new perspective. A young woman once put it this way: “My journal gives me a chance to discover things about myself I didn’t even know were there. As I write, I can figure out who I really am.”
I love that. I have been trying to write in my journal, but I am also finding that writing on my blog helps me a lot. It also lets me tell my loved ones how I feel and let them have a glimpse of the me they might not know is in there.
Doug and I took Sydney school shopping and out to lunch. She was so much fun. We had to go to the car repair shop because of the accident we were in a few weeks ago. Syd asked if she could go in with Grandpa. When they came back out she said that was like a doctors office for cars. Doug asked why she thought that and she said because they had fish tanks....
The mind of a child is so amazing.
